Leading in the Lab:  Before, During, and After


About the Session

Practical hands-on experiences are the foundation of family and consumer sciences. This session will focus on planning with purpose to support STEM skills in foods labs. Participants will analyze strategies for more effective lab demonstration and instruction, address equipment and safety concerns, and evaluate student roles and reflection. 

 Objectives:

  • Align lab experiences to national standards
  • Develop questions to stimulate thinking and provide guided support
  • Identify strategies for time management
  • Plan successful lab experiences

About the Presenter(s)

Dr. Susan Turgeson received the AAFCS Leader award in 2017was selected as the 2009 AAFCS National Teacher of the Year and received the AAFCS New Achiever award in 2005. Susan served as president of NATEFACS for 2017-2019. She served a three-year term on the AAFCS Ethics committee, a three-year term on the AAFCS Council for Certification and has served twice as a mentor for the AAFCS Leadership Academy. Susan currently is a FCS teacher educator at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point.
