Family and Consumer Sciences Body of Knowledge (BOK) in the Classroom
The FCS Body of Knowledge (BOK) is the core of family and consumer sciences. This webinar will focus on understanding the Body of Knowledge and how to use it to enhance your program and classroom instruction. This session was developed for a middle school and high school audience and it breaks down the BOK in manageable components. Attendees will recognize how to use the BOK in the classroom and make real-life connections to the integrative elements, core concepts and cross-cutting themes.

About the Presenter(s):
Dr. Katy Blatnick-Gagné is currently a Career and Technical Education (CTE) Generalist at the Iowa Department of Education. Katy is a second generation FCS educator who has been in the field for the past 20 years. Over that time, she has taught at the high school level and was an adviser for FCCLA. She has held positions at the state program level in Colorado and served as the Director for the Curriculum Center for Family and Consumer Sciences.
Dr. Karen Alexander, CFCS, is an Associate Professor of Family and Consumer Sciences Education at Texas Tech University. In that role, she serves as the Program Chair, Graduate Program Coordinator, and Interim Director of the Curriculum Center for Family and Consumer Sciences. Karen also has experience as a secondary FCS teacher. She has extensive experience teaching in online, hybrid, and face-to-face learning environments. Her teaching expertise addresses various aspects of the teaching and learning process.
